“Ignorance is Bliss”…. or is it just annoying?

Ok, I’m about to start talking in regards to something that I normally don’t bring up, simply out of respect because I am an open-minded individual. BUT…. something happened yesterday evening that has prompted me to speak a tad forward. Now, I’m not posting this to tick anyone off or to dance on anyone’s toes, but I just wanted to write about it. (Ahhh…. the beauty of free speech….)

Yesterday I was at home having dinner with my family when, all of a sudden, my doorbell chimed. We were puzzled a bit because no one heard anyone pull up into our driveway. After a brief moment, my husband grabbed our excited, little furbaby so he wouldn’t go scurrying out the door upon me opening it. Once the front door was opened, I was greeted by an elderly man with two *barely* male teenagers, all dressed in their Sunday’s finest. Suddenly, I was well aware of the impending speech, but respectfully allowed the older man to begin speaking. He started off by briefly introducing the young lads who accompanied him, then continued to introduce himself. They were from a local church going “door to door to spread the word” and to invite us to their religious establishment. The two young men to his side were obviously feeling somewhat nervous with their awkward smiles. I returned the gesture just to show no disrespect, then I looked back at the elderly one who was trying to hand me a small pamphlet from his shirt pocket.

As I politely interjected his speech, all I said was this….. “Not to be disrespectful or anything, but we’re not interested in what you have to offer.”

The man paused, looking confused and asked, “Why? You don’t believe?”

I replied, “No, not like you do.”

With a stern face he continued, “Oh, but you will when you’re in hell for not believing.”

Quietly, yet still respectfully for the young lads’ sake, I quickly smiled back, “That’s your belief, not mine.”

The old man tried to say something else, but then I graciously stepped back, still with a smile and told the three standing at my door to “Have a good day.” The older man respectfully said the same, for my family and I to have a good day as well. I nodded and then closed the door.

It made me a little irritated because I thought, “how dare he say I was going to hell for not believing the same as he did.” But then it came to me. He actually inspired me to write this article about it. Why? Not to complain, but to be more open about my beliefs. I’m a Wiccan and I am damn proud of it, too! Yes, I am a white witch. I used to hide my beliefs out of fear because of close-minded individuals like him, but I will do it no more. The older I get, the more I realize I am my own individual and I am the only one who’s in control of my life. The fear of others and their beliefs will not control who and what I am.

I proudly follow the Wiccan Rede, “An It Harm None, Do What Ye Will”. Which basically means, not to cause or bring any kind of harm to others (including one’s self). I am a very spiritual person. Yes, I work with crystals, incense, candles…. white light…. and I even communicate with the Angelic Realm quite regularly. And no, Angels aren’t just “Christian based”. Angels are beautiful messengers for anyone and everyone regardless of their beliefs.

A couple of days ago my friend and I were out getting some tattoos. I got a small one behind my left ear. It’s an Angelic symbol meaning “Listen Within”. I chose the design because it symbolizes something that is very dear to me, the voice within us all. Like I said, the older I get the more I realize things. And I am starting to focus more on listening to the messages that I receive from the Angelic Realm, my spirit guides and my higher self, instead of listening to all the clamorous nonsense and negativity that tend to plague society.

Since I’ve been doing so, I find myself more at peace. I’ve become even more open-minded with an even greater sense of understanding. Of course, I still get irritated with certain things, after all… I am human with human emotions, but because of narrow-minded people like the older gentleman from yesterday with his biblical message, I am more open-minded and now speak more freely about who I truly am. A proud Pagan and I don’t feel the need to go “door to door” to spread positive vibes. I do it with the simple gesture of a warm smile with the feeling of love and light.

I’m sure the man’s intentions were sincere, as close-minded as they were, but people like him have to understand that not everyone believes as they do. And because of that, it doesn’t mean that the rest of us are “going to hell”.

I am at peace to say that the bible handler’s message did inspire me, just not in a way that he intended.

Be proud of who you are and never let anyone tell you any differently! They’re the ones who have to live with their small minds, not you! So go out there and stand for what you believe in!

Positive Vibes Only, Baby!! 😉

The Circle of Life

Tomorrow is Easter for many people, but I celebrate it as Ostara. This is a very beautiful time of year. Spring is upon us as new life emerges. Warmer temperatures, bright colors as the flowers bloom and the smell of the fresh, crisp air make everything so invigorating. The energy is so enlightening, not to be filled with positive vibes, to me, would be absolutely unheard of!

I am proudly a Wiccan and I take this time of year very seriously, but I also believe in having lots of fun with it! I always enjoy painting and decorating eggs. Love those pastel colors: pinks, blues, yellows and so on and so forth… and today I’m even thinking about adding some sparkly jewels for a little extra pizzazz…. 😉 The egg is a beautiful symbol of fertility and new life. Which makes it all the more fun to decorate, right?! Not to mention all the other fun decorations with ribbons, rabbits, etc. etc….

However you celebrate it, enjoy this amazing and magical weekend! And always…. be blessed!!!

~ Much Love & Light, Sheila ❤

“Krampus: The Christmas Devil”

As Christmas vastly approaches, many of us celebrate with family traditions and regaled storytelling. However, some tales aren’t so lavish and magical. In fact, some are the makings of horrible nightmares. The story of Krampus is certainly one not to be ignored.

Krampus, a humanoid creature bearing a pair of wicked looking horns atop his head, resembling that of a sinister being set out to wreak punishment on all misbehaving youngsters during the Christmas holiday season. Unlike his jolly counterpart, good ol’ Saint Nick, Krampus doesn’t have a fantastical list of names that “he’s checking it twice and gonna find out who’s naughty or nice”. Nope, according to tradition that began centuries ago in Germany, Krampus begins appearing throughout the towns on the eve of December 6th known as Krampusnacht. His mission? To seek out the ungrateful children, snatch them up and take them back to his lair where he commits unspeakable acts of torture. This Christmas Devil is quite nefarious and isn’t exactly my cup of hot cocoa when it comes to memories of a warm holiday season, but still rather interesting. Interesting enough that a feature film has been released throughout the cinematic world titled, Krampus.

Folklore claims that this evil beast is the son of Hel. In Norse Mythology, Hel is a female who rules over the realm also known as Hel where many dead are said to go. According to Norse Mythology, Hel is the daughter of the shape shifter referred to as Loki and the phrase “Go to Hel” simply means to die. Not exactly an idyllic family tree compiled of warm holiday sentiment.

So, my question is this….. Since Krampus is a dark being of irrefutable fear that weeds out the bad children from the good, is he in cahoots with our beloved Santa Claus in order to help restore the light in humanity? Hmmm…. Question to ponder….

Interview with Eilfie Music

Today I’m welcoming occultist and paranormal investigator, Eilfie Music from the television series, Paranormal State. Thank you, Eilfie for stopping by!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am a Pagan (nonspecific pantheon) and witch that comes from a family of occultist, magick practioners, and agnostic people. I am married to my wonderful husband, Chris and we will be celebrating our second year of marriage which is still hard to believe. I am an artist that works with primarily acrylic and watercolor mediums. Much of my art ties into my magickal practice and occult symbolism.

You investigate the paranormal. How long have you been an investigator and what got you into seeking out the unknown?

I have always had a interest in the paranormal but I have only been doing actual investigations in the field for the past 15 years or so. My Father had an interest in the topic and had many strange books on the topic that I got a hold of at a young age. I have an interest in many things paranormal but I do focus more on haunted locations, spirits or ghosts, spiritualism, and psychic phenomenon.

You were part of the crew on the t.v. series, Paranormal State. What was that like and what was the most unforgettable case you worked on?

It always amazed me how three days not counting prep could be cut down to twenty minutes. Which is not bad, if people saw the full extent of an investigation they might be bored. A lot of it was waiting and listing to then reviewing until your eyes and ears bleed. It was not easy and sometimes it seemed I was living out of my luggage and hotel rooms, but it was an experience that I am grateful to have had. The Thomas House was a favorite of mind. It was this huge mansion that was a museum and had such a spooky feeling but not a bad spooky, just the sense of being watched all the time.

How do you prepare yourself prior to conducting an investigation? Is there a routine that you follow? A certain method you practice to help ward off negative energy?

This is more something I learned after the show, but taking care of your body seems to be often the factor between a good investigation and a long tiring night. Get lots of sleep before hand, if you need to do research try to do it the day before so you’re not up all morning and then needing to do an all nighter. Eat properly, my big weakness was too much caffeine and not the right food. Fast food is convenient but does not help in the long run. Make sure you are in a good state of mind to investigate. This can affect how it goes and even what you will perceive. After an investigation a good hot shower helps to wash away the physical and psychic yuck. I always visualized pushing off tar like muck to send down the drain.

You’re also an occultist. Share with us what that means.

The word occult means hidden knowledge. It is often the fringe or taboo of spiritual or magickal practice. This topic covers such a wide variety of topics that would take a lifetime to research it all. I know I will be spending the rest of my life reading the occult. For me, it is not a physically hidden knowledge since so many of the older books are at our reach, but the hidden comes in understanding what it means. Having “aha” moment when you make a connection is unlocking the occult.

What kind of advice would you give to someone who questioned the ghostly realm?

For as many years I have been studying and investigating the paranormal I am skeptical and this is ok. Always take everything with a grain of salt. I have seen weird stuff but question it since I know the mind and environment can play tricks. This doesn’t I mean I don’t believe in ghosts or the other world but I think it is very difficult to prove and gather Unquestionable evidence. Our experience with ghosts is ultimately a personal experience with the spirit realm.

Aside from the paranormal, what are some of your other interests?

Many of my interests deal with the past and cooking. I love cooking old and new dishes of all kinds. Chris loves it, but sometimes he worries when I experiment when I cook. My love of the past runs the gamut from historical research, vintage clothes, historical cooking, old houses the whole nine yards.

What’s next for Eilfie Music, any upcoming projects?

No big projects at the moment. At this time I write articles for the web zine ‘The Spellery’ monthly, and write reviews for ‘Witches & Pagans’ now and then. I also submitted a story to the up coming book “Tails from the other side” anthology to benefit the Staten Island Hope Animal Rescue. Paranormal wise, Chris and I got a chance to investigate with Adam Kimmel and his crew for “Resident Undead”. The episode aired recently, s 6 ep. 1 “Hill View Manor” which was fun but very cold.

Any words of wisdom you’d care to share?

Take everything in the Paranormal with a grain of salt, but also remember to have fun.
