Do you have a fear of ghosts, anything ghoulish that goes bump in the night and causes fright? Well, if you do, then don’t worry because millions of others do, too. It’s a very common fear known as “phasmophobia”. The word “phasmos” derives from the Greek language referring to “phantom” or “supernatural being”. It’s also known as “spectrophobia”. “Spectrum” is Latin referring to a specter, or an image of a thing, or an apparition.
Symptoms of phasmobia can typically be found in most disorders that lead to anxiety. A sufferer can go through feelings of dread, rapid heartbeat, panic attacks, also nausea and severe vomiting. It’s even been reported that a person suffering from phasmosphobia can develop OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) in order to conduct rituals to negate any kind of ghostly presence.
However, one can find treatment for such a fear. Self help methods can be extremely successful by reaching out to someone to openly talk about it to help eradicate the phobia by facing it. Another way is to contact professional help so that the phobia of ghosts can be removed. I always suggest to anyone who believes they’re experiencing any kind of ghostly activity to contact their local paranormal investigative team. It’s been from my own experiences that I’ve found these teams are compiled of members who are intelligent, non-judgmental and extremely open-minded, and are very willing to help to the best of their ability. Many of my friends are paranormal investigators and I always feel comfortable and at ease when working with them.
Also, the relaxation method of meditation (which I highly recommend) can help calm one’s inner turmoil, creating more focus, therefore a sense of confidence to bring forth a well-balanced mental state of mind. And…. having a close relationship with one’s spirit guide is something else I recommend. I work very closely with mine and by doing so, I have absolutely no fear.
There’s even a “specific phobia” involving a ghastly fear of mirrors. This macabre phobia is referred to as “catoptrophobia” which derives from the Greek language for the word “mirror”. Now I mentioned “specific phobia”, which simply refers to any type of anxiety disorder that signifies an illogical fear of the exposure of a specific item and/or situation which can eventually lead to the distressed individual avoiding all contact with the item and/or situation. The fear can actually be so paralyzing to the individual’s mental state that it literally disrupts their life.
Here are a few more phobias that I found to be rather interesting.
Achluphobia: which is the fear of darkness.
Eisoptrophobia: which is the fear of one’s own reflection.
Samhainphobia: which is the fear of Halloween.
And…. Wiccaphobia: which is the fear of witches and/or witchcraft.
The last phobia I had to include. Why? Because of my own personal beliefs and spiritual journey. I am Wiccan, a solitary one who practices the use of white magic, and there’s definitely no reason to fear anything I do. I only believe in promoting love and light. I am well aware of those who practice dark magic, and I also stay away from them. But that doesn’t mean that I fear them.
It’s easy to fear that which one doesn’t understand. It takes strength, courage and faith to overcome adversity.
“…I am perfectly aware that the fear of ghosts is contrary to science, reason and religion. If I were sentenced to spend a night alone in a graveyard, … I should already know that twigs would snap and the wind moan and that there would be half-seen movements in the darkness. And yet, after I had been frog-marched into the graveyard, I should feel a thrill of fear every time one of these things happened…” ~ Philosopher, Peter van Inwagen

I was a small child, just barely school age when I had my first experience with the paranormal. I’ve never spoken publicly about it until now, not even at my public speaking events nor book signings have I ever brought up the incident of which I’m about to tell you. Yes, I’ve openly discussed my encounters with shadow people, being touched by spirits, my ability of being an empath and also my ability of angelic communication, but never openly discussed my first recollection of a paranormal encounter. Why? Because to many people, it may sound a bit macabre and strange.
Like I said earlier, I was a small child when it happened. A little girl all dressed up in Sunday clothes right after church services were over. The day was sunny and warm, and the church members were carrying on lighthearted conversations as they were walking out of the building. As my family conversed, my attention was oddly drawn towards the cemetery for no apparent reason, which was only a few feet away. This church was a small, country one with not a very big congregation at all. So the atmosphere was safe and there was no cause for concern as I walked towards the graves. The ground had been undisturbed for quite sometime, meaning that there had been no recent funerals to speak about. Yet, I was undeniably drawn to a particular grave for which I had no connection with. The deceased wasn’t a family member, nor a friend. In fact, the individual had been dead for many years prior to our joining the church. But as I neared the grave, I began to detect a very faint smell. It was one that I had never experienced before, quite fragrant and soft. The inviting smell drew me even closer to the peaceful plot.
Now keep in mind that no one followed me and that everyone from the church were several feet away, meaning that the scent from their perfume/cologne dissipated as I walked away from them. However, this new scent grew stronger as I approached the grave. It was so beautiful and intriguing that it made me want to investigate its origin. The headstone was void of any floral arrangements that would give plausible cause for the unexplained smell. So, I continued to let my nose lead the way which made me only inches above the ground. At this point, I was literally sniffing the Earth that was immediately below my nose. Only grass separated me from the dirt. Yet, this inconceivable fragrance had become even stronger. In my innocent mind I started seeing brief images of bones, like I was looking down into the grave below. Was I led to this spot by the deceased individual? Perhaps what I was smelling was the beautiful fragrance they wore when they were alive. Maybe the spirit of the deceased noticed my gift and wanted to connect with me.
I wanted so badly to take my little fingers and dig into the dirt so I could find out more, but was abruptly stopped upon my grandmother’s discovery. And ever since then, every time I see bones, I’m quickly reminded of the beautiful fragrance I’ve never experienced again. The incident still remains a mystery to me, a fascination that I will never forget.

It was an evening in January 1846 when a young peasant girl from Normandy discovered that her life was about to change forever. Fourteen year old, Angelique Cottin, among other girls were weaving away silk gloves on what was a rather large oak frame. When, all of a sudden, the heavy wooden frame started to move on its own. The young ladies attempted to keep the frame stationary, but were unable to do so. In a complete state of terror they called out to their neighbor for help, but he refused. Out of his disbelief he told the girls to go back to doing their job. As afraid as they were, the girls obeyed and continued with their work. The wooden frame remained still as each girl, one by one, approached it until Angelique was near. And then, immediately the frame started to shake again. Even though the other girls were frightened, Angelique was not, but she was however, intrigued.
Upon hearing the news of Angelique’s bizarre incident, her parents grew worried that their daughter could possibly be possessed by the devil. They sought help from the church, but the priest denied the Cottin’s request for exorcism. Why? Because his curiosity had the best of him, he wanted to witness the unusual phenomena for himself. Once he saw Angelique’s odd ability happen right in front of his very eyes, that was enough to make him believe that the Cottin’s daughter was, in fact, not possessed at all. Instead the priest urged them to take Angelique to be examined by a medical physician.
As time was leading up to her meeting with the doctor, Angelique’s ability heightened more and more with each passing day. The young lady would attempt to sit in a chair, but then the chair instantly was “forced” away. It was also said that with a simple touch, Angelique was able to float a heavy table in the air. The mere act of sleeping became difficult for her, too. While laying down, her bed would start to uncontrollably rock making it impossible for her to get a good night’s rest.
Other times as she approached small items, they would dart away from her without any plausible explanation, and this poor girl wouldn’t have to touch any of them. Often, if people were near her they would get shocked without even touching Angelique.
After visiting with a few doctors who were baffled by Angelique’s condition, one doctor took the Cottin family to Paris where they met with scientists who were eager to meet with Angelique. Once they conducted a battery of tests, the scientists concluded that Angelique’s ability was indeed the real thing. In 1846 renowned physicist Francois Arago documented that Angelique’s ability was due to electromagnetism, which he wrote about in his publication in The Journal des débats.
If any of you have an ability like this, we would love to hear about it! Don’t be afraid…. share your experience!

“By accepting what lies beyond Death’s door, we allow ourselves to fear no more.”
~ Sheila Renee Parker ~
Lately, I’ve been watching Final Destination; all of the films within the series. It’s morbid how many grotesque ways death is portrayed in each movie. The chain of tragic events that continue to snowball until the last victim meets their demise is truly twisted.
However, as disturbing as these films are, they got me to thinking. Now I’m well aware that death is inevitable and there’s no running from it (like the people try to do in the movies), but does death really have a design as theorized in the fictional flicks of Final Destination?
Death, throughout the ages, has been ghoulishly personified as the Grim Reaper, giving him a dark, hooded presence with skeletal hands wielding a scythe waiting to claim one’s soul. No wonder so many are terrified of Death. I mean, come on…. if a big, scary dude that looked like that started chasing after me, I would run like hell to get away from him, too. And then, what happens once he’s caught ya? It’s horrifying, right?! The kind of stuff nightmares are totally made of!
But here’s where my thinking gets weird, a creepy notion to ponder. Instead of fearing the unknown, how about facing it head on with strength and perseverance? Losing a loved one is never easy. Like others, I know that pain all too well. Since April I lost my aunt, and then on this past Friday, her husband…… It’s definitely been a rough time….
But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve begun to accept things more differently. Meaning that a passing, regardless of how tragic and sudden it may be, happens beyond our control. Now I’m not trying to sound insensitive by any means, but by accepting what is, as it is, will help to heal the heart. Again, it is inevitable, we just have to be strong and know that we are not alone.

Never let your past define you. Instead, let it empower you. Be brave, be strong and show no fear in the face of adversity.
Good morning, everyone! Waking up to another rainy day here on the Gulf Coast while sipping on some coffee. Hope you’re all off to a great start!
Last night we went out for an evening drive, windows down and jammin’ to some tunes. *Sometimes ya just gotta feel the beat!*
We ended up at a local peir as the sun was setting. The vibrant colors changing from day to night… Intense yellows to the deep oranges… Finally blending in with the rising blues. One word…. “Gorgeous!”
It’s so important to randomly take moments to stop and “breathe in the beauty”. Really makes one appreciate life all the more, don’t ya think? 😉
Here are some photos of the radiant sunset we were blessed to experience. Hope you enjoy!
Stay blessed!!

To proclaim to be better than someone …. is ego.
But to be aware of the betterment over a situation …. is the clarification with mind, body and spirit.
