A Ghostly Perspective

This next post was inspired by a film that I’ve recently watched titled, The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia. The film is based on a true story and here is its description: “A historic Southern home’s new residents come face to face with a malevolent force.”

While watching, that was when it dawned on me that I was already familiar with the people portrayed in the film. I had seen them on other paranormal shows talking about their story and discussing the daughter’s ability of clairvoyance and communicating with the dead.

After I finished watching the film, it got me to thinking about ghosts and why some of them seem to be so malevolent. Perhaps their spirit isn’t actually malevolent at all. Maybe they just seem that way because they are trying to convey a message to the living. And after countless failed attempts of communication with the living, the ghosts become enraged because they have something to say but have no way of reaching the other side.

I know it may sound crazy, even far-fetched, but it made me think. So, by the time these ghosts finally find someone with whom they are able to communicate, they’re ready to unleash all their built-up emotions. And with the rush of feeling (and the fact that they’re dead) it’s easy to understand why the living can get so terrified by a paranormal encounter.

It makes total sense to me. Put yourself in their position. One day you’re walking down the street and all is well, then unfortunately something tragically out of the blue happens and you’re no longer part of the living. You’re now on the other side. You’re terrified, freaking out and you have no one to turn to. You try so hard to communicate with the living, but nothing – nadda. You try and try until one day your persistence finally becomes successful when you’re able to communicate with someone. But by this time, when you’re able to speak to a clairvoyant or whomever, you’ve got all this rush of excitement and that’s what scares the living because it becomes too overwhelming for them to handle.

Now this isn’t me in any way, shape or form, discarding all malevolent entities as non-malevolent. Extreme caution should always be utilized when investigating the paranormal because there are evil creatures/beings on the other side. So, be careful!

But the film did make me think and I wanted to share……

“The Magnetism of Angelique Cottin”

It was an evening in January 1846 when a young peasant girl from Normandy discovered that her life was about to change forever. Fourteen year old, Angelique Cottin, among other girls were weaving away silk gloves on what was a rather large oak frame. When, all of a sudden, the heavy wooden frame started to move on its own. The young ladies attempted to keep the frame stationary, but were unable to do so. In a complete state of terror they called out to their neighbor for help, but he refused. Out of his disbelief he told the girls to go back to doing their job. As afraid as they were, the girls obeyed and continued with their work. The wooden frame remained still as each girl, one by one, approached it until Angelique was near. And then, immediately the frame started to shake again. Even though the other girls were frightened, Angelique was not, but she was however, intrigued.

Upon hearing the news of Angelique’s bizarre incident, her parents grew worried that their daughter could possibly be possessed by the devil. They sought help from the church, but the priest denied the Cottin’s request for exorcism. Why? Because his curiosity had the best of him, he wanted to witness the unusual phenomena for himself. Once he saw Angelique’s odd ability happen right in front of his very eyes, that was enough to make him believe that the Cottin’s daughter was, in fact, not possessed at all. Instead the priest urged them to take Angelique to be examined by a medical physician.

As time was leading up to her meeting with the doctor, Angelique’s ability heightened more and more with each passing day. The young lady would attempt to sit in a chair, but then the chair instantly was “forced” away. It was also said that with a simple touch, Angelique was able to float a heavy table in the air. The mere act of sleeping became difficult for her, too. While laying down, her bed would start to uncontrollably rock making it impossible for her to get a good night’s rest.

Other times as she approached small items, they would dart away from her without any plausible explanation, and this poor girl wouldn’t have to touch any of them. Often, if people were near her they would get shocked without even touching Angelique.

After visiting with a few doctors who were baffled by Angelique’s condition, one doctor took the Cottin family to Paris where they met with scientists who were eager to meet with Angelique. Once they conducted a battery of tests, the scientists concluded that Angelique’s ability was indeed the real thing. In 1846 renowned physicist Francois Arago documented that Angelique’s ability was due to electromagnetism, which he wrote about in his publication in The Journal des débats.

If any of you have an ability like this, we would love to hear about it! Don’t be afraid…. share your experience!

“Spooky Random Fact: #19”

Automatic writing….. hmmmm…..

What is this mysterious form of writing and why are some so enraptured by it while others find it insidious? The practice of automatic writing (a.k.a. psychography) is a supernatural ability used by many individuals to communicate with spirits.

Often a person will sit in a trance-like state with a small chalkboard and a piece of chalk. While channeling, the individual allows the spirit to communicate through them. The person will transcribe the spirit’s message onto the chalkboard. This can also be done with the use of pen and paper. The individual, through which the spirit is communicating, claims to have no control over what’s being written, claiming that the spirit is in total control.

The mere thought of doing such an act frightens many people because of the idea of spirits entering (even if it’s for a brief period of time) a person’s body. They fear the possibility of a spiritual attachment. The use of a Ouija Board has also been considered a form of automatic writing.

A well-known case of automatic writing comes from the nineteenth century. New York Supreme Court Judge, John Worth Edmonds didn’t express any interest in automatic writing until after the passing of his wife. Even though Judge Edmonds put his career on the line, that didn’t stop him from pursuing communication with the spiritual world. Along with the help from his spiritualist friends, the judge claimed to have communicated with both historic figures….. Read more at Automatic Writing

A Board Known As The Ouija

The night was calm, dark and still. To this day, I remember it extremely well. However, many a year ago, it was a Saturday, a horror story of bold. Two other girls and I, together we were three, collected around a board known as the Ouija. Slowly, we placed our fingertips upon a small piece of wood called the planchette, dreading impending moments of regret, with fears of memories we wouldn’t forget.

With bated breath we deeply inhaled, then proceeded to ask things in great detail. For with the hereafter we wanted to converse, in a series of questions that were unrehearsed, like “is there anyone here?” and “how did you die?”. Then seconds later we got a reply. As scary as it was we were told “yes”. One simple word that made us become speechless. For we weren’t the ones who had replied, it was quite obvious by the fear in our eyes.

We continued with questions of more and we were answered with terror galore. With whom we had reached from the other side, was trying to come through with nothing to hide. Their answers were clear and their actions then too, for they were knocking over candles in the adjoining room. A room unoccupied with only a dim glow except for the entity’s unwanted show. Their presence was felt with heavy intent and we three girls were starting to resent unleashing this darkness that wasn’t fervent.

We stopped that night all due to fright and quickly put the board away locked up and tight. Our hearts raced without skipping a beat from what we had just witnessed that made the facts concrete. And even though it’s been so many years since that night with the swelling of tears, never again in front of me has there ever been another board known as the Ouija.

“Spooky Random Fact: #13”

“Spooky Random Fact: #13”

“Yes”… “No”…. The spirits will tell you so, or do they really even know?

The Spirit Board, more commonly known as the Ouija Board, actually is based from the American 19th century obsession with spiritualism which is the belief that the deceased can communicate with the living and vice versa. On a scary note, many people believe that by using a Ouija Board, one can open doors leading into the gates of Hell, allowing demonic beings into our own world. After people use the board, several report hearing strange noises, seeing dark shadows, witnessing objects move mysteriously without reason and some extreme cases even claim experiencing possession from what they believe they brought through the “portal” or “opening” of the Ouija Board.

It’s not just a game. Once you’ve played with one, your life may never be the same. For you’ve been forewarned, what lies beyond the ghostly door shouldn’t be opened with a Ouija Board.

“A New Look with a Few Spooks”

Hey all you ghosts and ghouls, beautiful people, lightworkers and such! Wow, that was quite the diverse greeting, wasn’t it?!

It has been nearly four fantabulous years (June to be a tad more precise 😉 ) since the creation of my site and I thought it was time for a change, one that’s been way overdue. As you can see, there’s a kickass new header image (designed by a very dear friend), shadowed by an adorable black, Gothic background adorned with skulls. And I’ve added a few more pages that were once written articles by me. I decided to upgrade the articles to having their own pages to help encourage people to openly discuss their very own personal paranormal experiences and more. So, I gladly welcome everyone’e interactions with an open mind and open arms.

My site here, sheilareneeparker.com, is non-judgemental and is free of all negativity. As I always say, “Positive Vibes Only”, baby!

Also, just for a little added creepiness, periodically I will be posting on here “Spooky Random Facts @ sheilareneeparker.com” to help sharpen the senses about things that “go bump in the night”. So, stay tuned and join in. Let’s have some spooky fun! I’ll try to keep things at a moderate level, not causing too much fright…. and I’ll even promise not to bite…. well, maybe just a little nibble. A girl’s gotta feed sometime, right?! 😉

However popular this study is, there still is no scientific evidence that proves such theory.

But just in case such ability does exist, I recommend using extreme caution to anyone who considers performing automatic writing. In my opinion, like with the use of a Ouija Board, it may not be that easily discernible with whom one is communicating. So be careful and know that it is not a game.

Ouija Boards ~ a.k.a. Spirit Boards

Ah yes, the infamous Ouija Board. Many of us have heard of these communicative devices used to speak to the dead thanks to the hugely named board game companies that have popularized it as a favorite past-time for those who want to interact with the beyond.

This preternatural board is flat with the alphabet of A – Z displayed in two semi-circles above the numbers 0 – 9, two words “yes” and “no” in the top two corners and the words “good-bye” printed at the bottom center. Accompanied by a communicating tool called a planchette, which is usually a tear-drop shaped device used to maneuver about the board. It can be used by a single individual or several at any given time. There are typically no rules. All anyone has to do is simply place the fingertips upon the planchette and begin asking questions. It’s that easy… or is it??

The Spirit Board, more commonly known as the Ouija Board, actually is based from the American 19th century obsession with spiritualism which is the belief that the deceased can communicate with the living and vice versa. On a scary note, many people believe that by using a Ouija Board, one can open doors leading into the gates of Hell, allowing demonic beings into our own world. After people use the board, several report hearing strange noises, seeing dark shadows, witnessing objects move mysteriously without reason and some extreme cases even claim experiencing possession from what they believe they brought through the “portal” or “opening” of the Ouija Board.

From a skeptical point a view, scientists speculate that the cause of the movement with the planchette on the spirit board is veritably the result of the ideometer effect. The ideometer effect is a psychological phenomenon wherein a subject makes movement or motions unconsciously. For example, when the body produces tears in response to powerful emotions without the person consciously deciding to cry.

People of all walks of life have played with the Ouija Board at different ages. Some are the younger generations who make their interactions with innocence and others may in fact, use the Ouija for sinister purposes. While some people may be well aware of the movement created by their own hands in attempt to spawn the “wow” factor to scare their friends. Whether or not this communicative board really does work or if it’s the result of scientific reasoning is solely based on individualistic experience.

Who are we to judge the authenticity of one’s belief?
