Fibromyalgia Awareness

Hi, everyone!! Hope all are well!! Yesterday, May 12th was Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. Just wanted to share the following with you. Something I’ve been dealing with on a personal level. I usually don’t discuss these things about myself, but this time is an exception because it is really important to me…..

This past year has been rough for me. After years of constant widespread pain throughout my body, amongst other issues, I finally went to the doctor last year.  Since then, I’ve seen 4 specialists, had 3 MRIs, several X-Rays, blood work, prescribed pain meds, back injections, muscle relaxers, went to physical therapy and a chiropractor …. Had nerve testing done…. After all that, I’ve been diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease, I also have a bulging disc in my back, I have a curve in my lower spine, S I joint problems, Carpal Tunnel in both wrists…. Also hip, knee and wrist joint problems.. Anxiety and Depression (for which I take Cymbalta).. . And on Sept. 29th I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia on top of all that. Pain medications do not work at all for me. The pain gets so bad that it keeps me awake at nights. The insomnia is horrible….

The above all mentioned has seriously changed my life. I am disabled now with mobility issues and having to re-learn how to do daily things that I used to take for granted. It definitely sucks… Lol…

I never post about things like this. I keep to myself…The reason why I am sharing this is to help spread knowledge (hopefully) about Fibromyalgia Awareness.

If you were to see me out and about, you would never know what I go through on a daily basis. The debilitating pain and discomfort, mobility issues…. etc… That affect me constantly.

So, staying positive for me isn’t easy, but it’s what I do to the best of my ability because I am 45 years young and I will enjoy my life the best way I can!!

In the photo I’m proudly wearing a shirt I had personalized…  🙂

  1. I know very well what Fibromyalgia is about. But good thing is one can recover from it, despite it can take a long time and it is very individual from certain reasons. Anyway I am just random fellow blogger who saw that title in my “reader”, did not know yesterday was the Awareness day for this health issue … If you would like to know more, feel free to drop my message or mail. I do not want to spam your blog 🙂 Anyway be optimistic!

  2. I was very sick around the same age. And I can happily report that now I feel younger with each birthday as I have progressively improved! As bad as it is for you now, keep looking for promising changes. Don’t lose hope!

  3. Thank you for sharing. I also have Fibromyalgia since early 2000’s. I am 35 and I have the same issues as you with my back. The bulging disk and scoliosis. Now my issues are my feet with nerve pain and swelling. I know how you feel. I wish I could wake up with no pain and be able to do simple things like cleaning and dancing without being immobile for days. Sending hugs.

  4. Hello! This pic is an amazing one to choose from. Love your strength! Rockin the hair and the shirt!
I know it takes all you have and then some. A lady I know, calls it using up all the spoons.
I’ll send you good and soothing vibes to help as best it can if you wish to accept.
I know it’s not easy and thank you for taking that step and sharing it with all of us.
I understand some days the pain (migraines/lowerback for me), just makes you just want to wish yourself into another time and space. Glad you’re still here keeping space with all of us.

  5. Hi It must have taken a lot of courage to put all these down in writing for the world to see. I had not even heard of this condition Fibromyalia before today. Must be a terrible experience to have to suffer like this without losing your positivity and rationality. I wish you the best and may you keep up your spirit and your strength to deal with this dreadful condition. Regards Jayanta

  8. Hey Sheila, I can relate so much to your post. I have Fibro as well and have had it since I was 15. I’ve got my own blog and have recently written about how to cope with Fibromyalgia pain and a medication called Low Dose Naltrexone, it changed my life. I’ve attached the blog if you would like to read it, links to the medication are attached within as well: https://playinginthestorm.com/?p=325.

I wish you all the best and hope you’re doing okay today!
