Today I’m welcoming Reiki Master and author, Deb Lloyd. Thank you, Deb for stopping by!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I was raised on a farm in northern Indiana, the oldest of nine children. At the age of three years, I was stricken with polio. After surgeries and years of physical therapy, I continued to walk with a pronounced limp, but overall, did quite well, married and had two children. While raising young children, I went to college and eventually obtained a Master of Social Work degree. Currently, I work as a hospice social worker in Asheville, NC.
Additionally, I provide Reiki sessions and trainings – and have written a book.
How did you get into Reiki and what made you want to become a Reiki Master?
In the 1990’s, I started to experience chronic fatigue as a result of post-polio syndrome. I saw a physician who specialized in post-polio syndrome; he prescribed a low-dose medication and it helped a little. Several years later, a coworker told me about Reiki. I was skeptical at first, but after thinking about it more, I decided I had nothing to lose. Truly, during my first session, I felt the fatigue lifting from my body. I have not experienced that level of fatigue again – that was 15 years ago!
My husband and I attended our first Reiki class a few months later. Initially, my focus was improving my energy levels and my physical body. Not only did the fatigue lift, but my legs became stronger and my limp less pronounced. Then, I started to give Reiki to family members and friends. As time went on, I felt called to become a Reiki Master and teach others this healing modality.
Can you help us to better understand what exactly is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy healing modality. Our belief is that the practitioner is a channel for the Universal Life Force Energy, bringing loving energies through our hands into the receiver’s being. What is different about Reiki is that the Universe guides the energies, not the practitioner. The healing may occur in the physical, mental/emotional and spiritual aspects of a person. Through Reiki, I have learned how powerful the mind/body/spirit connection is. For example, part of my healing was dealing with the emotional impact of polio – although I thought I’d done enough work on the emotional impact of my childhood disease…. but there were still deep-rooted perceptions and feelings that needed further healing.
Tell us about the services you provide.
I provide a variety of services now, from in-person one-hour sessions through all levels of Reiki training, including Reiki Master training. Additionally, I provide distance healing sessions; this is possible because the Universal Life Force Energy has no limitations. I begin and finish these sessions with brief phone calls, to explain the method and answer any questions a client may have.
One of the blessings in my work is that my intuitive abilities have grown over the years. Combining these abilities with my counseling background, I now offer a Spiritual Counseling component. Clients can add on time for spiritual counseling, after the Reiki treatment ends.
How can people contact you for a Reiki session?
The easiest way to reach me is to email me at deb@deblloydhealing.com. For more information, please see my website, http://www.deblloydhealing.com.
You’re also the author of Believe and it is True: A Story of Healing and Life Lessons. What’s your book about and how can readers get their very own copy?
Ridding my body of chronic fatigue was just the beginning. Reiki led me to explore other alternative healing modalities, including practicing yoga, connecting with a psychic medium, and working with a shamanic intuitive healer. It’s been quite an amazing healing journey, where I also learned important life lessons along the way. This journey is detailed in my book. The book is available on major bookselling websites, such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble, in both paperback and ebook formats. It can also be ordered through a local bookstore. And, for an autographed copy, you may order directly from my website.
On your website http://www.deblloydhealing.com/, you discuss your upcoming workshops and trainings. What can people learn by attending these events?
Most of my trainings are teaching others how to do Reiki. I also enjoy doing presentations at local festivals; the topics vary from Learning about the Archangels, to Working with Colors, to Chakras and the Healing Process. One of the wonderful things about Reiki is that it leads you to study the many ways a person can understand energy better to manifest one’s own healing journey.
What’s next for Deb Lloyd?
It seems I am writing more and more! I am now a regular contributor to Reiki Rays, an informative website focused on Reiki. Check it out – it is an international, information-filled website. I truly enjoy reading all the articles about Reiki and how it is expressed and practiced in different cultures around the world. Recently, the Reiki Rays creators published a book, where five of us authors answered questions about Reiki. The book is called Reiki 101 – 101 Answers for Your Reiki Questions. It is in electronic form and available through amazon.com.
I remain passionate about sharing Reiki and see no end in sight for offering sessions and trainings!
Any words of wisdom you’d care to share?
The most important message I try to convey is this: Healing is possible for everyone; everything can be healed. Ask for healing, and listen for guidance – the right modality, book, practitioner or whatever your next step should be, will be revealed to you. Trust your wisdom and say yes to the invitation – and you will find the healing you desire in your life.
Energy work is truly amazing…..

I came across cases where the technique been used to heal wounds, cure cancer, stop depression and restore function of limbs after a stroke. Have you heard of any accounts of Reiki in the treatment of AIDS?

I appreciate the comments!
Reiki can be used for any type of acute or chronic illness. However, Reiki does not always cure these illnesses. But, Reiki always brings some kind of healing into a person’s being – it may be physical, mental or emotional, and/or spiritual. It can always help a person to be less stressed, and more relaxed – one of the first steps in dealing with any malady or problem.
